Questions I get as a Doctor specializing in Cannabis- Dr. Scott Jacobson MD

What conditions can I use Cannabis for?

Cannabis is used to treat many medical conditions. Every state has different laws and qualifying conditions to qualify you for a medical marijuana card. Chronic pain is the most common but PTSD, Nausea, AIDS, Cancer, glaucoma and seizures have also been shown to benefit from treatment with cannabis. Nevada has recently expanded conditions to include Autism and anxiety.

What’s the difference between THC and CBD?

Cannabis, better known as Marijuana or hemp, is all the same plant. Some strains of the plant are low in THC, the psychoactive component of cannabis. When the THC is <0.3% it is considered hemp, and is generally high in CBD. Both have numerous medicinal properties. You can get pain relief from both THC and CBD and the effects are compounded when taken together, this is called the entourage effect. CBD has been studied and recently shown tremendous results for seizures in children. When it comes to anxiety I prefer CBD or a combination. For many conditions it is beneficial to combine both THC and CBD and individualizing the dosing is often what I work on with my patients.
